Die De Vette Mossel – Strand Seekos restaurant, is ‘n ervaring! Dit is meer as net ‘n ete. Wees gesellig in ‘n informele opset, kuier saam met vriende en familie, moenie gejaagd wees nie en natuurlik, eet soveel seekos as waarvoor jy lus is, net soos ons langs die Weskus maak!

Forget the usual à la carte experience, here we are all about something much more exciting! We serve an endless supply of ocean delights and more (Viskeidenheid!), in a relaxed, fun-filled setting. You indulge for two – three hours, where time is your own. Whether with family, friends or for weddings, parties or functions, every visit is a celebration!

At De Vette Mossel, most of our dishes are prepared right in front of you on open fires, adding to the magic of the experience.
Our menu offers a feast like no other – 7 courses, 13 dishes, served rolling buffet style.
1. Freshly baked Pot brood (pot bread) served with farm butter and sweet apricot jam

Beware of our famous Potbrood!
Oooeee Delliah – Yes, you have been warned!
We bake our very own pot brood (pot bread) over the fire. It is impossible to resist, especially when served with farm butter and sweet apricot jam (appelkooskonfyt)!
But be careful, because when your mussels arrive and you see the seafood pot bubbling away, you might shed a tear if you have filled up on bread!
The pot bread is followed by tender mussel meat, sautéed with onions, heaps of garlic and farm butter, alongside mussels in half shells steamed in white wine and onions, all served to your table.
The next dish is a West Coast classic: snoek served with sweet West Coast style sweet potatoes.
Next, indulge in our signature seafood pot, packed with 3 types of fish, calamari strips, mussels and prawn tails served with savoury rice, a garden salad and a rich vegetable dish with milk and cheese.
For those who prefer meat, there is a hearty meat pot.
To top it all off, we end your dining experience with seasonal fresh fruit, traditional South African moer coffee, rooibos tea with condensed milk and a delightful local favourite – koeksisters!
This is a feast that lasts nearly three hours, so sit back, relax and enjoy – and if anything runs low, don’t worry, there is always more on the way!
The DVM-Grootbrak story…
Niël du Bois the visionary behind the De Vette Mossel, opened De Vette Mossel Grootbrak (Mossel Bay) in 2004.
This new and unique beach seafood experience quickly captured the hearts of guests, thanks to the support of our beloved “Mossel-friends”. Before long De Vette Mossel Grootbrak had become a sought-after destination for those craving something truly different and extraordinary. As the original Mossel, its success paved the way for three more branches, with the fourth proudly opening in Hermanus by 2018.
A key to the success of this Mossel is Nikki Geyer. Her warm, welcoming and ever-helpful nature makes her an integral part of the team. Nothing is ever too much for her, and her dedication is felt in every detail of the experience she helps create.
At De Vette Mossel, we are committed to uplifting our community. That is why we have chosen to employ individuals who were previously unemployed, providing them with the necessary training and skills. Today, they are valued members of our Mossel-family, sharing not only in the hard work, but also in the success of the Mossel.

At De Vette Mossel Grootbrak, we are deeply committed to sustainability and minimizing our impact on the environment. We grow some of our own vegetables using compost from our garden and encourage suppliers to source less plastic packaging.
Our seafood is sourced responsibly and we make every effort to use local ingredients. We proudly repurpose recycled materials, like fishing nets and ‘fluitjie’ reeds, for building. By using minimal water and donating leftover food to the local community, we ensure that nothing goes to waste.
We donate all food that could not be finished to families in serious need within the community. Nothing goes to waste here.

Behind which dune will you find us?
De Vette Mossel Grootbrak is located right on the beach between Klein- en Grootbrakrivier, near Mossel Bay in the Garden Route. From the N2, take the turn to Grootbrakrivier and turn right at the stop street in the direction of the sea. Turn right again on the R102 by the T-junction (by the Total Garage/De Dekke and in the direction of Mossel Bay). Then turn left about 1.5km further and follow the winding road to the beach.
