There is something for everyone at our table! It is a remarkable experience in a one-of-a-kind, informal environment, brimming with Island style relaxation – West Coast authenticity at its finest.
Forget the usual à la carte experience, here we are all about something much more exciting! We serve an endless supply of ocean delights and more (“Viskeidenheid!”), in a relaxed, fun-filled atmosphere. You can indulge for two to three hours, where time is your own. Whether you’re with family, friends or celebrating weddings, parties or functions, every visit is a celebration!
Picture this: You kick off your shoes, feel the sand beneath your feet, and enjoy the presence of friends and family. Experience the ambience and unwind in front of a crackling bonfire with a glass of the finest in hand – right there on our beach! And let’s not forget our beach bar, stocked with a fantastic range of drinks to complement your feast. At De Vette Mossel, most of our dishes are prepared right in front of you on open fires, adding to the magic of the experience.
Our menu offers a feast like no other – 7 courses, 13 dishes, served rolling buffet style.
1. Freshly baked Pot brood (pot bread) served with farm butter and sweet apricot jam
with onions, lots of garlic and farm butter
steamed with onions & white wine
with Sweet sweet potato – West Coast style
calamari strips, mussels and prawn tails
Rice: for those who want to catch the sauce
Garden salad: we seldom talk about salads
Vegetable dish with milk and cheese: even Karoo farmers tuck in

with South African Rooibos tea

Beware of our famous Potbrood!
Oooeee Delliah – Yes, you have been warned!
We bake our very own pot brood (pot bread) over the fire. It is impossible to resist, especially when served with farm butter and sweet apricot jam (appelkooskonfyt)!
But be careful, because when your mussels arrive and you see the seafood pot bubbling away, you might shed a tear if you have filled up on bread!
The pot bread is followed by tender mussel meat, sautéed with onions, heaps of garlic and farm butter, alongside mussels in half shells steamed in white wine and onions, all served to your table.
The next dish is a West Coast classic: snoek served with sweet West Coast style sweet potatoes.
Next, indulge in our signature seafood pot, packed with 3 types of fish, calamari strips, mussels and prawn tails served with savoury rice, a garden salad and a rich vegetable dish with milk and cheese.
For those who prefer meat, there is a hearty meat pot.
To top it all off, we end your dining experience with seasonal fresh fruit, traditional South African moer coffee, rooibos tea with condensed milk and a delightful local favourite – koeksisters!
This is a feast that lasts nearly three hours, so sit back, relax and enjoy – and if anything runs low, don’t worry, there is always more on the way!

Niël du Bois’s vision extended beyond just the beach, he dreamed of bringing the beach and island style vibe inland. The idea led to the creation of De Vette Mossel Parys and Harties, allowing him to bring the ocean experience closer to those who live far from the coast. Step into either one of these De Vette Mossels and you will feel as if you have been transported to the West Coast, almost forgetting you’re inland!
De Vette Mossel Parys opened its doors in 2013.
Your hosts, Waldo and Amori Prins, bring their own unique energy to this special spot.
Amori with a background in insurance, uses her expertise to keep things running smoothly. Waldo, a lover of vintage cars, spends his free time restoring these classics. Both grew up on farms and share a deep love for adventure and the outdoors. They dreamt of bringing the beach and island vibe to the platteland, and with their enthusiasm and hands-on approach, they have made it a reality.
Their passion ensures you will experience the signature beach atmosphere and seafood feast that De Vette Mossel is known for, while still enjoying the same unforgettable experience, concept and menu that you have come to love at every De Vette Mossel.

At De Vette Mossel Hermanus, we are deeply committed to sustainability and minimizing our impact on the environment. We grow some of our own vegetables using compost from our garden, we avoid plastic straws and encourage suppliers to source less plastic packaging.
Our seafood is sourced responsibly and we make every effort to use local ingredients. We proudly repurpose recycled materials, like fishing nets and ‘fluitjie’ reeds, for building. By using minimal water and donating leftover food to the local community, we ensure that nothing goes to waste.
We donate all food that could not be finished to families in serious need within the community. Nothing goes to waste here.

Behind which dune will you find us?
Follow the road through Parys on the R59 towards Vredefort, just outside of Parys. Turn left at the first gravel road – you will see our sign! Continue on the gravel road for 1.2 km.
